Tag-Rugby Championships

28th April 2016
Denton's finest battled it out at the annual South Downs Tag-Rugby Festival at Eastbourne Rugby Club on Thursday amidst brilliant sunshine and artic winds. The competition was fast and furious and we began against the mighty Ocklynge; the final score was 5-5 (4 tries from Lucas Richardson and 1 from Reece Thirlby) although we were extremely unlucky not to win. Next we faced The Haven and we played superbly well, winning 5-3 (2 tries each for Lucas Richardson and Alex Maclean, and 1 for Adam Colyer). Our final group game was against Lewes Old Grammer who ran out worthy winners at 4-2 (tries from Lucas Richardson and Adam Colyer), which meant we finished 2nd in the group and so booked a semi-final showdown against Stone Cross. This game was an absolute cracker, but unfortunately a last minute try from Stone Cross meant we lost 4-3 (tries from James Brooks, Harry Sands and Lucas Richardson).

It was a fantastic tournament with fantastic support from parents - for both the players and the referees! A big well done to all that took part.

The team was (tries scored in brackets): Lucas Richardson (8), Ciaran Richardson, Adam Colyer (2), Alex Maclean (2), James Brooks (1), Reece Thirlby (1), Harry Sands (1), Luis Chapman, Jessica Gostock and Grace Young.
