On Wednesday 12th October, the Year 5/6 school football team made their way across the river to face local rivals, Breakwater Academy (formally Meeching Valley). It was the first time Denton had faced an academy in a competitive sporting fixture, and we were determined to come away victorious...
Denton were dominant throughout, playing with impressive attacking flair, and creating chance after chance after chance. But the Breakwater goalkeeper could not be broken as he pulled off a string of fine saves; although eventually Denton got their just rewards and a fine header broke the deadlock. Breakwater continued to show dogged determination and stopped Denton from increasing their lead for much of the first half. However, two more goals just before half-time took the game away from the hosts.
The second half was a display of excellent teamwork from both sides, but Denton continued to enjoy the majority of the possession and created a multitude of fine chances throughout. Denton came away as 8-0 winners; a very impressive start to the new season.
