Football v Breakwater

12th October 2016
On Wednesday 12th October, the Year 5/6 school football team made their way across the river to face local rivals, Breakwater Academy (formally Meeching Valley). It was the first time Denton had faced an academy in a competitive sporting fixture, and we were determined to come away victorious...
Denton were dominant throughout, playing with impressive attacking flair, and creating chance after chance after chance. But the Breakwater goalkeeper could not be broken as he pulled off a string of fine saves; although eventually Denton got their just rewards and a fine header from Wolfe broke the deadlock. Breakwater continued to show dogged determination and stopped Denton from increasing their lead for much of the first half. However, two more Wolfe goals just before half-time took the game away from the hosts and gave Wolfe a Denton debut hat-trick!
The second half was a display of excellent teamwork from both sides, but Denton continued to enjoy the majority of the possession and created a multitude of fine chances throughout. Jones - on as a half-time substitute - showed impressive composure in front of goal and ended the game with a hat-trick. Bass, instrumental throughout, finished the game with two goals of his own, which meant Denton came away as 8-0 winners; a very impressive start to the new season.
Man of the Match: Jacob Wolfe
The team was (goals scored in brackets): Joe Moran, Rylie Carpenter, Harry Sands (Cpt), Kelly Rowe, Levi Bass (2), Ben Beaver, Joe Maclean, Maxwell Jones (3), Jacob Wolfe (3).
