We include a strong emphasis on respect and an understanding of Cultural Diversity, with well-developed links to Arts subjects such as music, story telling, dance, drama and art. In line with East Sussex guidance, Sex and Relationships Education and Drug Education are part of our two-year cycle of PSHE teaching and learning for all pupils, at an age-appropriate level. These topics are often taught alongside the Science schemes of work for learning about the human body, because they duplicate Science learning objectives from the National Curriculum. Parents/carers are able to withdraw their child from all, or part, of the Sex and Relationship Education provided, if they so wish - other than those elements which are required by the National Curriculum Science Order. A Parents/carers’ Guide to the school's Sex and Relationship Education Policy which gives greater detail about what the children will learn is available on our website and on request from the office.
Religious Education (RE)
Children will leave Denton CP School with a coherent framework to allow for deeper levels of knowledge and understanding of religious and non-religious life stances. Children will develop respect and sensitivity, so that, as future citizens, they will value and celebrate cultural and religious diversity, in peaceful co-existence. Opportunities will be provided for pupils to explore their own beliefs, values and traditions through study, visitors to our school and with visits to related places of worship.
Children will leave Denton CP School understanding and responding to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources. They speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they want to say, including through discussion and asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation. They can write at varying length, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical structures that they have learnt. Pupils discover and develop an appreciation of a range of writing in Spanish.
