Sea Horses (Year 2)

Welcome to Sea Horse Class 2016-17

Our Topic for Term 5 is Plants. We will be planting a range of flower and vegetable seeds and investigating the best conditions to grow. During Term 6 our topic is the Queens of England and we will be looking at the Victorians and Queen Victoria, then making comparisons between life then and life now with our current Queen Elizabeth.
SPONSORED BOUNCE!
For our final fundraising activity we took part in a Sponsored Bounce on space hoppers. We were raising money for the RSPCA. We had to bounce around on space hoppers for 3 minutes and our parents / carers sponsored us per bounce! Some of us managed over 300 bounces! It was great fun and throughout the year we have managed to raise £113.90!
Denton Marathon
We had great fun running part of the Denton Marathon. In our half an hour slot we managed to run 3.3 miles! Thank you to all the mums and dads that came along to support and run with us!
Easter Egg Rolling!
No Easter would be complete with out a bit of egg decorating and rolling! We had great fun!!
RSPCA Visit
As you know Sea Horse Class has chosen the RSPCA as our class charity this year. They told us all about the charity and how they help domestic and wild animals to be safe. We were very lucky they came into visit us and they even brought some friends! Some children (those braver than Miss Blotz!) got to stoke the tegu, gecko and snake they brought in but our favourite has to of been their dog who showed us lots of funny tricks!
Pirate Day - Music Enrichment Day
Some of the Sea Horses got to take part in a very exciting music workshop. The day was themed around pirates and all children who took part experienced a pirate adventure through music. Children learnt some great songs and got to play a range of instruments. At the end of the morning those children who took part put on a little performance for the rest of year 2 and parents! It was fantastic!! We all enjoyed the songs and are looking forward to learning them in class!

Healthy Eating Week
We have had great fun learning all about what it means to be healthy. We have found out about the different food groups, tasted different fruits and vegetables and made our own healthy sandwiches. We printed patterns with fruits and vegetables and learnt all about the artist Giuseppe Arcrimboldo, who painted faces with fruits and vegetables.

Building Houses
For our Term 2 topic we designed and built out own houses out of junk modelling materials. Thank you to all the parents / carers who provided us with all the cardboard boxes and plastic bottles, we love our houses and had great fun making them!
With Christmas fast approaching we have lots of songs to learn for the Key Stage 1 Nativity. Below are the songs we need to learn.

Hustle Bustle

CHORUS

Hustle bustle, let's get busy,
Planning for our journey.
Hustle bustle, lets get busy,
Must be on our way. (Repeat)

Caesar has decreed a law we all must heed:
We must travel to the place of our birth.
Just as Caesar planned, all across the land
We must travel to the place of our birth.

CHORUS

Repeat verse

CHORUS

Hustle bustle, let's get busy,
Hustle bustle, let's get busy,
Hustle bustle, must be on our way.

Hey Ewe!

1     Four worried sheep escape from the pen,
Run up the hill, run down again.
Round and round they run about

Till they hear the shepherds shout:

Shepherds

CHORUS     Hey ewe! Come back here,

Everything's gonna be alright. Hey ewe! Come back here,
Or we're gonna be here all night! Hey ewe!

2     Three worried sheep escape from the pen,
Run up the hill, run down again.

Round and round they run about
Till they hear the shepherds shout:

CHORUS

3     Two worried sheep escape from the pen,
Run up the hill, run down again.
Round and round they run about

Till they hear the shepherds shout

CHORUS

4     One worried sheep escapes from the pen,
Runs up the hill, runs down again.
Round and round they run about

Till they hear the shepherds shout:

CHORUS

We had great fun designing and making our own sweets for our topic on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We used the recipe for peppermint creams, but changed the flavours, colours and made our own shapes.
Welcome to Sea Horse Class.

Hello.
Everyone has come back to school well rested and ready for lots more learning.
This term is packed full of interesting projects.

When we returned from the holidays some magic beans appeared in our classrooms. The next day a beanstalk had grown all the way to the top of the ceiling, and jack asked us to write some instructions on how to climb the beanstalk. The children have been very busy.  The giants must have come to have a look at our land as we found their footprints in the playground.  We also found a broken giant's bowl at the foot of the beanstalk today. The children used all their measuring skills to make glue to fix it.

Look at the pictures below.

Well done everyone for a truly epic assembly. You were all fantastic.
This was then followed by a great dog walk for our class charities.
See the pictures below.
All donations due in on Monday 27th June.
Towner Gallery Trip
We had a fantastic time at the Towner. We loved seeing our art work there and looking at the other schools art work aswell.

If you would like to see the art work in person the gallery is open until the beginning of June. It's free to go in and I can reccommend the cafe if you get a chance to go in.
The Police Officer Kate Carter visited us. We learnt lots about being safe.
The R.N.L.I came to visit us and talked to use about how to stay safe when we are near the water.
Look at our amazing dancing to the song Under The Sea.
We used different movements to be things that live in the sea like fish and seaweed.
