Cricket: South Downs District Finals

News

9th June 2015

On Tuesday 9th June, the Year 5&6 school cricket team headed to the famous Saffrons cricket ground in Eastbourne for the South Downs Area Finals. Eight of East Sussex's finest cricketing schools were there and we found ourselves in a group with Ocklynge A, Southover and local rivals, Meeching Valley.
Our first match was the eagerly antipicated match versus Meeching Valley and we strode home as winners by over 30 runs. Next we faced Sussex champions, Ocklynge A, and having played magnificently well, we fell just short of their 244 with 228 in reply. Our final group match was against Southover and after a tremendous batting display, we made life difficult for their batsman and won again. That meant we finished 2nd in our group and so played Ocklynge B in the third place play-off. Ocklynge bowled extremely well until Sonny Last tore them to pieces in the final two overs, thus setting a very competitve 255 to win. Our bowling and fielding was once again superb and we restricted Ocklynge to just 198.
The team played magnificently well and achieved our highest ever finsih in the Area Finals - a big well done to all.
